Last month`s Women`s Business Connection discussion focused on access to capital and growing your business. For July, we will feature the services and support programs offered by a ‘new and improved' and more user-friendly Internal Revenue Service. The agency has many on-line services, e-banking options, and other programs to inform, educate, and guide women business owners with their tax responsibilities to the U.S. government.
Our first guest speaker from the IRS is Angela Kraus who assumed her current position in 2002 bringing with her a background in government relations, public affairs as well as the experiences of a small business entrepreneur. Her previous position was an assistant vice president for a leading international public relations firm where she also served as an advocate on a number of tax issues for her firm`s clients. She has also served as staff to a Member of Congress. Before moving to Washington, DC, in late 1997, Angela was the owner of a small printing and graphics firm in Oklahoma.
Our second speaker is Stephanie Harrison-Colbert, who joined the Service in December 1991 and is currently the lead Tax Analyst for Minority and Women organizations at the national level. She has served in this position for the last six years, responsible for outreach and education for small business owners on tax obligations. Her background also includes knowledge and contacts from all sections of the IRS.
Council member Karen Kerrigan will serve a moderator. Karen has developed positive relationships with individuals in media, government, policy and advocacy organizations, and the private sector that have led to substantive reform and initiatives to help America`s entrepreneurial sector. In 1994, she founded the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (http://www.sbecouncil.org/), a prominent and respected advocacy and research organization with more than 70,000 members nationwide. She is also President & CEO of Women Entrepreneurs, Inc. (www.we-inc.org), a nonprofit business association she founded to help women business owners succeed through education, networking and advocacy.
Please mark your calendars for the fourth Tuesday in July and join the discussion on tax services and products. Let us know if you agree that the IRS is ‘new and improved' and more user-friendly. Please feel free to forward this message to any colleagues who may be interested in gaining additional information on tax obligations of small business. If you have any questions, contact Aileen M. Kishaba, NWBC Director of Policy Programs, at 202-205-6829 or aileen.kishaba@sba.gov. Please let us know if you have topics you`d like to hear more about on the NWBC`s Women`s Business Connection.
Next Scheduled Conference Call: Calls are scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of each month from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET. We encourage you to mark your calendars and join us regularly.
